The Eden Diet Christian weight loss program was created by Dr. Rita Hancock, a medical doctor with ivy league training in nutrition and the psychology of obesity as well as personal experience overcoming childhood-onset morbid obesity (and keeping the weight off for over 25 years).

The plan is about rejecting the diet mentality and re-learning how to eat the way God originally intended with joy rather than guilt. You get to eat not only the healthy food that your body craves for nourishment, but also delicious treats such as cheeseburgers, pizza, and rich, delicious desserts. The key is to eat your treats in smaller portions than the world would have you believe is normal and only when you're physically rather than emotionally hungry. When you're emotionally hungry, Dr. Rita gives you specific tools for how to employ your faith to find willpower against unnecessary eating.

The Eden Diet edition by Rita Hancock MD Religion Spirituality eBooks

I'm a 63-year-old female who has tried a multitude of diets over the years. I lost weight with some of them, but always gained it back over time. I believe God led me to "The Eden Diet" because He knew that when I try to abstain from certain foods that I love, I'm miserable, and it actually makes me more obsessed with food. On the Eden Diet, I can eat all of the foods that I enjoy, as long as I am hungry when I eat them, and stop before I'm full. It's only been a couple of weeks, and my clothes are already looser on me than they've been in a very long time. Dr. Rita Hancock is anointed by God to teach us how to break free from gluttony and compulsive eating once and for all. Not only does she use science to back up her way of eating, but she uses Scriptures from the Bible. She even includes prayers at the back of the book, which I find to be inspiring and encouraging. Dr. Rita is not only an MD, but she has Ivy League training in nutrition and the psychology of obesity. Once a compulsive eater herself, she lost 75 pounds eating the way she describes in her book, and she has kept it off for decades. If you long to break free from gluttony and overeating God's way, this book could be the answer to your prayers. I know that it was the answer to mine. God bless!

The Eden Diet edition by Rita Hancock MD Religion Spirituality eBooks Reviews

I am an emotional and binge eater. I have been on every single diet out there (Jenny, WW, eDiet, etc) and spent a small fortune on 'new' diet books. I just recently purchased this book and from the first page (the introduction really) I was blown away with the teaching that Dr Hancock presents. I have never, ever read any diet book that says I can have everything - nothing is off limits - just watch my portions. To some of you this may seem silly for me not to watch my portions but this was a totally new concept for me to learn. In one chapter I actually had goosebumps! Dr Hancock talks about how when we are on our 'diets' we feel we can eat all the diet food we want because it is low fat or low sugar. We eat enough diet food and we've already eaten more calories than if we had eaten what we wanted to in the first place. This really hit me the other night when I ate one of my 'diet' biscottis when I really wanted something else. I didn't think, just ate the biscotti, then realized that the sweet I wanted was only 50 calories more and would have so satisfied me! No book has made me think like this. I am in the midst of an online Christian weight loss class that just recently started and I am so disappointed. I didn't realize when I signed up for this last year that I would be asked on our first day (class just started last week) to stop eating everything white, anything with artifical or sweeteners added and no sweets. This is just another diet that I could never stick to. For one thing, just trying to think of all I eat that has anything 'white' in it requires more effort than I can give right now. I have been diagnosed with fibromyalgia and the pain is unbelievable. I fight depression, anxiety, high cholestrol, high blood pressure and then to add my horrible eating in this equation - what a mess I feel like! I truly feel in my heart that if I can ever get my eating under control then some of the other ailments I have will either disappear or at least be minimal enough that I can handle it. My doctor has indicated this same idea to me many many times. I highly recommend reading Dr. Hancock's book, "The Eden Diet". This is only one of a few book reviews I've ever done on but I feel so strongly that anyone with eating problems will truly benefit from the teachings of this book. Please give it a try. I will be doing the Eden Diet Workbook once I finish the book, then am on to her brand new book "Radical Well-Being" - I have high hopes that this book will help me alot, too. (also, I wanted to add that one reason Dr Hancock can advise and teach on this subject of dieting, emotional and binge eating, is that she has personally been through it. She is a real doctor with specialities that deal with all these issues. She speaks to us, not at us. She knows, both from a personal standpoint and a medical standpoint, what we need to hear and re-learn).
Dr. Rita Hancock's The Eden Diet has been an answered prayer for me. Being an unashamed Christian, I especially appreciated the frequent reference to Scripture as she made her valuable points throughout this book. Although her main premise is to only eat when you are hungry and to eat small amounts, it is still VERY important to read this book thoroughly so that you can see the importance of these practices. I will be reading this book again with my wife who will appreciate as much as I do what amounts to just plain common sense from the doctor, with regard to our eating habits. Her amazingly wise advice regarding how to handle the "All You Can Eat" Buffets will stay with me the next time I have to go to one of those highly tempting places. The empowering statement that "I am Lord OVER my food, it is not Lord over me" and the recommendation that we leave a bite or two of each entrée on the plate will help us to let go of the strong habit pattern that has been instilled in our minds since we were infants Namely that we must clean our plates. I, personally, want to break free from that rule and consider that by forcing myself to eat more, the food just goes to "waist" (but unfortunately, it's mine).

For those who no longer want to be led around by the stomach, no longer want to be ruled by our carnal "sin" nature to be gluttons, no longer want to go through the guilt and shame of diets where you start one, fail, start another one, fail, etc., then this book is for you. I got a free copy for my and I truly want to thank the author for allowing us to have her book and get to know her approach. Her site, TheEdenDiet.org has a forum where you can associate with other fans of this lifestyle change as well as a store where you can purchase items to help and encourage you in this life-changing program.
